Club Engineer 2
Semester 2

Do you like making things and relish a tricky challenge? Could you build a robot pet? Do you wonder how machines work and buildings are built?
Then Club Engineer is for you.
Years 4, 5 and 6 students are invited to join ‘Club Engineer2’ held after school in semester 2 from July 18th on most second Wednesdays for 12 sessions. ( see following for dates and information).
Club Engineer 2011 is run in close collaboration with Geelong Grammar Toorak Campus, Geelong Grammar School but is a privately run entity.
Club Engineer will give students plenty of opportunity to exercise creativity and problem solving while working with science, mechanical and structural systems and learning how robots are programmed . Their creations will be tested in a series of fun challenges where they will pit their skills against other club members with activities such as how far can your Trebuchet throw a
marshmallow? The aim of the club is to provide a social, fun club with challenging activities that extend the children’s understanding of how machines work and buildings are built
.
About the LEGO Robots
The robots that we will be using are the LEGO NXT robots. These robots look suspiciously like toys but are actually programmable micro controllers. Each robot has an ultrasonic sensor, sound sensor, degrees sensor, light sensor, touch sensor attached and outputs such as motors, sounds and graphics that can be programmed to react to the sensors.
Robotics is a fascinating growth area that allows science, I.T. , engineering and Mathematics to be seamlessly embedded in creative activities . Students are learning serious skills and principals while having heaps of fun!

Roles will be switched and your child will be the ‘boss’ in a team that shows what they have learned. Have fun working with your child and release your own inner child, you know you have always wanted to ‘play with’ LEGO!
