Essential Excel
It’s often assumed that teachers have a level of competence with Excel. For teachers who have moved up into teaching later year levels or have missed out on vital PD this isn’t always so. Excel is an amazing tool for seeing patterns in numbers, speeding up calculations and creating customized graphs etc. This program is not a replacement for understanding mathematical operations but is fantastic extension and is extremely valuable for students who find math’s challenging. This workshop will take participants through some of the basics of using Excel with formatting , formulas and creating graphs. Bring your own laptop computer or use my laptops.

Future or Fiction?
In May 2009 Japan released a female robot onto the fashion catwalks. With her expressive human-like face and refined proportions made Asimo look passe. The year 7 MLC students found this robot simply astonishing. The idea of injectable nano robots totally creeped them out! This fascinating science unit has it all and will send out tentacles into multiple areas of the curriculum. Consider the similarities between human senses and a robots sensors. What about artificial intelligence? What is it and does it present humans with any safety issues? This pictorial presentation ( which will be provided for all participants) explores the world of robotics including the science and ethical elements that face humanity now and in the future. This topic is achievable if you have educational robots in your school or if you don't. Robotics offers creative teachers unlimited potential to present fascinating and relevant units, after all what student didn't enjoy iRobot?

These programs are great for creating eWorksheets and training aids, computer wrangling and capturing students imagination I'll show you how to use them and give you the urls for your free downloads. We'll also have a short sharing session where you can share your best hints for freeware and gather some from others ( so come along with the urls for your favorites) . This is a great workshop for teachers wanting to get a little more functionality out of their computers and make life easier whilst costing nothing.
